More rigorous review of fiance visa application is expected as new investigation details of San Bernardino shooters emerge. We will probably see more detailed background checks and more rigorous vetting. As reported by LA Times, there new details of the marriage-related fiance visa application:
These are public hearings, and they may not have an immediate effect on how green card applications are processed by the USCIS. However, these new details of the investigation reveal how not all the “t”s crossed and “i”s dotted. The USCIS is a government-ran organization. It is inefficient by definition. Furthermore, there are are signs that the agency lacks resources and is underfunded. Some of the existing protocols the agency follows still heavily rely on paper processing of applications; the data entry is manual. The delays are profound. So when you try to further complicate the application process by adding more steps, extra screenings and additional background checks, it is only logical that the overall process will become longer. |
